Chromebook Usage

Chromebook Rules

Chromebooks are issued to each UMS student with the following items:

  • Chromebook

  • charger

  • case

Students are expected to follow all the expectations in the district technology agreement.

Chromebook Repair

On-site repairs

  • screens

  • battery replacements

  • frames

  • keyboards

Additional repairs may be done on or off-site depending on damage severity

Chromebook Information

Loaner computers are not available. Students must have their own device daily.

  • Must be in the district-provided case at all times

  • Must be brought to school charged

Failure to comply with the technology agreement may result in loss of device usage.

Chromebook Repair Costs

  • First Incident: $25

  • Second Incident: $50

  • Third Incident: $75

  • Intentional Damage: all related costs

  • Loss: Possible full replacement cost pending review and investigation

  • Theft: Possible full replacement cost pending review and investigation; a Union Police Department report must be filed before a replacement is issued

6-8 Clubs

ARTC: An art club that focuses on creating crafts while encouraging social skills and self-esteem.

Battle of the Books: Students form teams (2-4 members) to read a given list of 15 books and then compete in a trivia-style competition in the spring. The winning team members will win a prize and will also compete against the winning teacher team.

Book Club: A bi-weekly club that gets together to read, discuss, and occassionally create items for/about middle school level books.

Builder's Club: A student-led service organization helping members become the leaders of tomorrow through acts of service.

Kindness Club: A club which focuses on developing positive relationships through acts of kindness. This student-led club takes on acts of kindness within the school and the community.

*National Junior Honors Society: NJHS elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship and helps middle-level students develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond. Students are invited to become members during 7th grade and are full members throughout their 8th grade year.

Odyssey of the Mind: A club focused on teaching students how to think outside the box, problem solve, and work as a team to reach a common goal.

*Scholar Bowl: A competition club which consists of answering trivia questions about history, math, science, literature, grammar, and popular culture. Scholar Bowl is open to all UMS 7th and 8th graders.

Science Olympiad: A competition club that focuses on building science skills through research, experiments, and teamwork.

Student Council: The purpose of the Student Council is to give students the opportunity to develop leadership skills by organizing and carrying out school activities and projects. They are the voice of the student body and help share student interests and concerns with the school wide community.

TREND: A club that promotes a drug free lifestyle while being involved in positive leisure time activities. Activities include: Sponsoring Red Ribbon Week, game nights, crafts, bowling and community involvement.

Yearbook: A club that students can join if they enjoy taking pictures, working with others, and creating yearbook pages on the computer to create the Union Middle School Yearbook.
