Last night at our regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting, the Board accepted the retirement letter of Dr. Scott Hayes, effective at the end of the 23/24 school year. Dr. Hayes is in his third year as our Superintendent and served as one of our Assistant Superintendents for five years prior.
After a standing ovation, Dr. Hayes addressed the audience and said, ‘It’s been an absolute honor and privilege to be both an Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent in the Union R-XI School District. Union is an amazing community with wonderful students and families. I will most remember the many fond relationships established during my tenure here in Union.’
Board President, Dr. Virgil Weideman perhaps said it best, ‘There’s no doubt in my mind Dr. Hayes has made our school district better. We wish him the best and thank him for everything he has done for our community.’
The Board will immediately begin their work to find a successor to Dr. Hayes and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
On behalf of the entire #unionrxi school community, we thank Dr. Hayes for his vision and his unwavering commitment to ensuring we are providing the best possible educational experience for our students and their families. Please take a moment and congratulate Dr. Hayes on his impending retirement and recognize him for all he has done for our school district.
